SOUND CHILDREN

Early Years Instruments

Here you'll find a wide range of Sound Children Early Years musical instruments and accessories for the Over 3s.

These are real musical instruments, not plastic toys: they're just like professional ones but in most cases have been scaled-down to suit smaller players. They're all individually made by hand from natural, tactile and sustainably grown materials and the decorative designs are from paintings by Balinese children.

Please select one of the main instrument sub-sections from the menu bar above. There are lots of different sizes and models within each sub-section.

WARNING

DJEMBES FOR THE EARLY YEARS   Djembes are classic, hour-glass shaped west African drums and they come in wide range of sizes. The smaller ones can be played with the finger tips or with small beaters (one supplied with each small djembe) and in Early Years settings the bigger ones (see the DRUMS subsection of our main INSTRUMENTS & ACCESSORIES section above) are usually best played on their sides with the player astride. Older children and grown-ups can play the djembe sitting on a stool or chair with the drum resting between the knees.   Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and should always be used under the supervision of responsible educationalists and carers. Having now used the bamboo djembes for a couple of months, I can safely say Im converted! The sound quality is excellent; slightly different from the wooden djembes but still rich and strong. However, the biggest plus is the lightness of the drums as this makes getting them out, distributing and putting them away almost effortless. The children also find them easier to handle and this has meant that Ive used them more frequently with the younger ones as even 6 and 7-year olds can move and carry them with ease. Next time I need to replace a drum I will definitely be ordering from your bamboo range.

DUNDUN & KENKENI TYPE DRUMS FOR EARLY YEARS   These double-ended drums are great for Early Years as they're light, very tough and the kids love to play them. They're also not too loud!   Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and should always be used under the supervision of responsible educationalists and carers. Keep out of reach of children under 3 years of age. [...]
Our children at pre-school love the instruments and ask daily if they can have them out. I was very pleased with your excellent customer service and delivery was prompt and have no doubt in recommending your company.

THUNDER DRUMS FOR EARLY YEARS   Thunder drums are a great favourite with young children (and adults too). They're wonderful for story-telling and sound effects but young children will need careful supervision.   Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and should always be used under the supervision of responsible educationalists and carers. Keep out of reach of children under 3 years of age. [...]
OCEAN DRUMS FOR EARLY YEARS   Great for teaching coordination and fine movement control: when you tilt the drum slightly the balls inside roll from side to side, producing a sound just like waves breaking on the beach. The skill is in adjusting the speed and angle of the tilt. Each drum has a wipe-clean carry handle and a beautiful seaside painted image. The bigger the size, the bigger and more realistic the sound. Favourites with Special Needs, Early Years and Primary and can be played and enjoyed by almost anyone. Sizes vary from 20cm diameter up to 40cm and the drums are available either plain or painted with fish and sea motifs.    Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and  [...]
SHAMAN DRUMS FOR EARLY YEARS   Our shaman drums are based on Native American indian designs and each is supplied with a special leather covered, padded beater.  As many as five or six children can sit round the big 60cm shaman drum with the drum balanced on their knees. Great for Early Years, Primary and Special Needs and also a great attention-grabber and rhythm-setter for the teacher/leader. Available either plain or with animal designs.   Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and should always be used under the supervision of responsible educationalists and carers. Keep out of reach of children under 3 years. [...]
OTHER DRUMS FOR THE EARLY YEARS   Here you'll find a range of drums originating from all over the world. Although some don't look or sound like drums, these are all "membranophones" - instruments where the sound is produced by a vibrating skin or membrane. Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and should always be used under the supervision of responsible educationalists and carers. Keep out of reach of children under 3 years. [...]
After teaching music to children for 20 years, the Jumbie Jam has come to be the most fun method of teaching music to students I have known. Even the most difficult and hard-to-reach students connect with the Jumbie and claim it as their own. I do not have any discipline issues when I teach the Jumbie. Students immediately engage in this fun instrument and are learning the power of music before they even realize it. Students who have never experienced making music, now LOVE music class and this fun and contagious style of music.

GAMELAN FOR EARLY YEARS    Gamelan is the name of the traditional band music of Java and Bali. It is also the name of the metallophones which play the tunes and beats of this energetic and layered music which also features cymbals, gongs and drums. These are based on Balinese gamelan but are made smaller and lighter and have also been tuned to a version of the 'slendro' tuning which is basically pentatonic - put simply all the notes will sound good together and with our other gamelan in this set. Young children love playing these because not only do they make a great sound, they are hit with specially shaped mallets and have enticing bright designs on the instruments... Please note that our products are musical instru [...]
